Sound machines help you (and your baby) get to sleep by producing constant “white” noise, masking sounds that fade into the background but help to quiet the mind and keep you from focusing on disruptive sounds that might wake you from sleep. For your baby, they also recall the comforting noise of the womb.
Yogasleep’s Dohm sound machine has been around since 1962 and has the official stamp of approval from the National Sleep Foundation.
This tried-and-true basic makes just one noise, the soothing sound of rushing air. The sound is generated by a fan inside the acoustic housing, not a recording (rest assured, you won’t get a waft of cold air coming out of your sound machine). You can adjust the speed, pitch and volume of the sound until you find the sweet spot you and your baby need for a good night’s sleep.
The Dohm is simple to operate, and its unobtrusive, compact design makes it useful at home and on the road (you will need to plug it into an outlet).
If you’re looking for a sound machine with lots of white noise options, songs, a nightlight, timer or other bells and whistles, this isn’t the machine for you. But if simple and reliable appeals, this one may work wonders.
